We’re all in this together, and we at Bluechip are proud to be part of a community and society willing to help. Over the past few weeks, several Federal and Provincial initiatives have been put in plate to help you, your family, and your company through.

We understand that you’re facing unique challenges right now. That’s why our team is reviewing all requests for payment adjustments on a case-by-case basis to find a solution that’s right for you. While turn-around times for these requests may be longer than normal, due to the high volume of requests that we are receiving, please know that you’ll certainly have a chance to speak with someone from our team to discuss your situation.

Resources for you and your family

During difficult times, it’s important to take care of your family and yourself. Below are some of the resources in place to help individuals and families through this crisis:

Emergency benefit: Taxable benefit of $2,000/month for up to 4 months for:

  • workers who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 and do not have access to paid leave
  • those who are sick with COVID-19
  • those taking care of a sick family member
    self-employed individuals, including contract workers


EI sickness benefits: Apply as soon as possible after you stop working. If you wait more than 4 weeks after your last day of work to apply, you may lose benefits.

Taking Care of your Mental Health – The COVID-19 pandemic is new and unexpected, care for your mental and physical wellbeing

Resources to help your business

Wage subsidy: 75% wage subsidy for businesses with revenue decreases of 30% or more, for up to 3 months, retroactive to March 15, 2020. The subsidy will apply on the first $58,700 of annual salary, or $847/week*.

*Organizations that do not qualify for the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy may qualify for the previously announced wage subsidy of 10 per cent of remuneration

Interest-free loans: The new Canada Emergency Business Account will provide interest-free loans of up to $40,000 to small businesses and not-for-profit companies.

Defer tax filing: Businesses can defer the payment of any income tax amounts that become owing on or after today and before September 2020. The government will defer GST, HST, and customs duties until June 30, 2020. 

Government Relief Programs for Small Businesses Affected by COVID-19 – Export Development Canada (EDC) and the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) will provide $65 billion in direct lending – Eligible businesses may obtain incremental credit amounts of up to $6.25 million through the program.

Small Business Loan: Low-interest loans up to $2 million if your business has been generating revenues for at least 24 months.

Purchase order financing: Cover up to 90% of the purchase order amount to ease cash flow to your suppliers.

Co-Lending Program for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.
BDC is working with financial institutions to co-lend term loans to SMEs for their operational cash flow requirements.

FCC COVID-19 support program: Options for Farmers include a deferral of principal and interest payments for six months OR a deferral of principal payments for up to 12 months and to an additional credit line of up to $500,000

Alberta: COVID-19 relief measures for your business

British Columbia: A one-time $1,000 payment if you’ve lost income because of COVID-19.

Saskatchewan: Three-month deferral to remit PST.

Quebec: Low-interest loans and loan guarantees of at least $50,000. 

Manitoba: Information for Businesses, Workplaces and Employees

Nova Scotia: Defer payments until June 30 for all government loans and small business renewal fees.

Important COVID-19 Recommendations and Updates

Call to Action: If you are a Canadian manufacturer or business that can assist Canada in meeting the need for medical supplies, your help is needed. If you can say yes to the following, Canada wants to hear from you:

  • You manufacture in Canada and/or have ready access to necessary inputs through your supply chain.
  • You have equipment or facilities that can be rapidly re-tooled to meet medical needs, including for personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks and surgical gowns; sanitizers; wipes; ventilators; and other medical equipment and supplies.
  • You have skilled workers who are able to respond and who could be available for work in the current circumstances.

You can protect yourself and help prevent spreading the virus to others if you:

Do

  • Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze
  • Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell
  • Stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell

Don’t

  • Touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands are not clean

What is a lease deferment?

A deferral is a change in repayment terms on an agreement where one or more scheduled payments may be reduced.  Those payments may be caught up in the months following the reduced period, amortized over the remaining term or moved to the end of the contract.
